How we help you navigate the retirement maze at Britannic Place
There’s plenty to think about when it comes to retirement. From what you want to do, to how much you’ll need to do it, it can feel overwhelming to make these crucial decisions that will likely determine your financial situation for the rest of your life.
All these choices can make retirement feel a lot like a maze. Your end goal lies behind one of the many different paths in front of you, and it can feel like an insurmountable challenge to work out which is the right direction to travel in.
Fortunately, when you work with us at Britannic Place, we help you navigate this retirement maze, so you know exactly where you’re headed and how you’re going to get there.
Here’s how we do it.
Make a plan before you go in
Imagine looking at a maze on a piece of paper, and how you might go about solving it.
You might trace a path through it with your finger. Or you might use a pencil instead so you can try different options, erasing and going back on yourself if need be.
What wouldn’t make sense is taking a pen to paper and trying to rush through it before you’ve fully considered the routes available, or where the exit actually is.
Retirement planning is just the same. You need to know where you’re headed first before you can start putting plans in place to help you get there.
Of course, the biggest difference between a real maze and retirement planning is that while a maze often only has one end goal, retirement planning can have many solutions.
You might have grand ambitions to travel the world when you retire. Or, you may have slightly more modest targets, perhaps to simply move to a detached home in the countryside.
These goals require different solutions to reach them. That’s why it’s even more important to know all your options first, so you can make an informed decision about which direction and solution will work best for you.
At Britannic Place, we’ll always start by having you define your goals for the future first. That way, we can tailor our services to create a bespoke financial plan that works for you.
Choosing a path
Once you know what your options are, you can go about selecting the one that will best suit your needs.
When you work with us at Britannic Place, we show you the different options available to you, and explain them in simple, straightforward terms.
Whether it’s through your pension, savings, or even the value in your home, we’ll find the path to your goals that best suits your financial circumstances.
This will be specific to you; after all, everyone has different end goals in mind for their retirement maze, so there’s no sense in pursuing a “one size fits all” solution.
Crucially, we’ll be with you every step of the way as you travel down your chosen path. We’ll be on hand to answer any questions and alleviate any concerns as you move towards your goals, too.
Assessing as you go
Of course, having chosen a path doesn’t mean sticking to it regardless, especially if your progress isn’t what you thought it would be. As with a maze, there’s no harm in trying a different route if the one you’re headed down isn’t quite working for you as you had hoped.
That’s why, when you work with us, we’ll always review and assess as we navigate the maze together to make sure that you stay on track towards your goals.
It could be that we need to refine your plan because your circumstances have changed. You may have received money you weren’t expecting, such as an inheritance, which means you have more ambitious targets. Or your goals may have changed as you’ve gotten older, moving the goalposts slightly.
In this case, we’ll help you figure out your new goals and create an updated plan with these in mind.
Alternatively, you may want to adjust your route based on extenuating circumstances. For example, there may be a market downturn, similar to that in February 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic caused global markets to fall.
In response, we might suggest that you take income from elsewhere while your investments recover, or perhaps adjust the amount of risk you’re taking on to better suit the conditions.
Whatever recommendations and refinements we suggest, we’ll always do so with your goals and personal circumstances in mind. We’ll also always make sure that you fully understand what we’re proposing and why, and we’ll only ever implement these changes with your knowledge and approval.
No matter what happens, we’ll be by your side to help you make sensible choices for your money throughout your journey so that you reach your goals as planned.

Please note
A pension is a long-term investment. The fund value may fluctuate and can go down, which would have an impact on the level of pension benefits available. Your pension income could also be affected by the interest rates at the time you take your benefits.
The value of your investment can go down as well as up and you may not get back the full amount you invested. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.
