Meet Anton: From Professional Rugby to Financial Services Trainee
A career shaped by sport and discipline
At Britannic Place, we’re proud to welcome people from a wide range of backgrounds, each bringing valuable experience and perspective to the team. Anton’s journey from professional rugby to financial services is a great example of how discipline, teamwork, and determination from sport can translate into a new and rewarding career path.
Anton spent many years playing rugby professionally, a sport he has been passionate about throughout his life.
“I’ve enjoyed rugby my whole life and was extremely fortunate to make a profession out of it. I really valued the travelling, the team environment, and of course playing the game itself.”
Discovering an interest in financial planning
While still playing rugby, Anton began developing a strong interest in financial planning after moving to the UK. He started exploring the industry alongside his sporting career, building knowledge, and studying in his own time.
“Since moving to the UK, I became really interested in financial planning. While I was still playing, I started studying and building an understanding of the industry.”
That early curiosity ultimately led him to take the next step into financial services with Britannic Place.
Joining Britannic Place and learning on the job
Since joining the firm, Anton has taken on a hybrid role, supporting both the administration and advising teams and gaining exposure across multiple areas of the business.
“I’m working in a hybrid role at the moment, helping both the admin and advising teams with day-to-day tasks. It’s a great way to learn how everything fits together.”
He has embraced the opportunity to develop within a new industry and enjoys the variety his role brings.
“I’ve learned an enormous amount so far, especially around systems and processes. Every day is a chance to build on that knowledge, which I really enjoy.”
A mindset shaped by professional sport
Anton’s background in rugby continues to play an important role in how he approaches his work, particularly his focus on continuous improvement and personal development.
“I’d say my determination to improve and better myself is something that really carries through from rugby.”
Why Britannic Place and what’s next
Anton joined Britannic Place after meeting the team and feeling an immediate connection with the people and the direction of the business.
“Meeting Steve, Dean and Jess at my first meeting was a really positive experience. The conversations we had were promising, and it quickly became clear that Britannic Place would be a great fit for where I am in my financial planning journey.”
Looking ahead, Anton is focused on progressing within the firm, developing his technical knowledge, and working towards a future advising role where he can support clients directly.
When asked what advice he would give to others considering a similar transition, Anton keeps it simple:
“Go for it and embrace the opportunity.”
