Trainee Financial Planner

What you'll find me doing at work

I began my career as a structural engineer within the engineering consultancy industry before transitioning into financial planning. The role developed my analytical thinking and problem solving skills, which I now apply to helping support clients and their financial plans.

Since joining Britannic Place, I’ve been closely involved in many stages of the client advice process. This has included carrying out research and preparation ahead of client meetings, participating in meetings with clients, supporting the preparation of advice and recommendations, and producing the follow-up documentation and communications that support their financial plans.

I have also been involved in discovery meetings, strategy discussions, and annual review meetings, helping to build a clear understanding of clients’ goals and supporting the development of appropriate financial planning strategies. As I continue to develop in my role, I look forward to taking on greater responsibility in client meetings and, in time, advising and supporting my own clients.

Where you'll find me after work

I’m a former national swimmer with a passion for fitness and the outdoors. One of my favourite achievements from my swimming days was being part of a team of 100 swimmers that set a world record for completing the fastest ever 100×100 relay.

Outside of work, my family means everything to me and I enjoy spending as much time with them as possible. When I’m not with them or training, you’ll usually find me tackling maths puzzles, getting lost in a great book, enjoying a film or series marathon, or studying as I work towards becoming a fully qualified financial planner.

In the spotlight

Get to know Sam a little better.

On an ideal weekend, you can find me:

Hiking in the mountains on a fresh, sunny morning, followed by lunch in a traditional British pub with family and friends. A gym session late afternoon before heading out to a nice wine bar in the evening soaking in the atmosphere with loved ones.

My favourite holiday destination is:

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

My favourite song to play in the car is:

Danger Zone – Kenny Loggins

The first album I bought was:

Destiny’s Child – The Writing’s on the Wall

If I could be any fictional character, I would be:

If I could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, I would win a medal in:

Winning office bets

When the dessert menu arrives, I’m looking for:

The three qualities that draw me to new people are:

Authenticity, kindness and great energy.

My pet peeve is:

When people do not listen, those who are constantly on their phones, gossiping, poor time management, to list a few.

The best gift I’ve ever received is:

It may sound corny, but the loving relationship I have with my family and long-term partner.

The three people at my dream dinner party would be:

St. Thomas Aquinas, Albert Einstein and Adele

The three small things that make my day better are:

A hearty meal with my family around the dining table with games afterwards, a great workout and a morning coffee.

Three things I haven’t done so far include:

Seeing the northern lights, go skydiving, visit all seven continents.
